Baby Chicks ...

Many of you will be off doing Summer stuff, but if you happen to be surfing the net and then decide to check in here, I thought I'd post a picture of the chicks who should have hatched in front of you. They are very intelligent chicks; for 16 days they grew in your class listening to algebra lessons, discussions about the future of our oceans and how history informs the future. They might have listened into some teenage gossip. Currently, 5 of the chicks live with Ella, Division 1, and 3 live with me.

So now that they have hatched and you have flown the Journey coop, I will bid you, Happy Summer. Come back to visit me here online or in person. I can't say enough how awesome all of you are.

June 12th

So tomorrow is the day, your grade 8 leaving ceremony. I know that you have been thinking about this day since you were in grade 6. Tomorrow marks the beginning of your next step, High School. I expect great things from you. You are all so talented in such a delightful variety of ways. It has been my absolute pleasure to teach you all and I am finding it hard to give you up.

Now...there still might be school next week, if the bargaining team is able to reach an agreement. Stay tuned for that...you might not have got rid of me yet. ;-)

For an entry, write a comment...about anything.

Update

The BCTF has voted to escalate job action, if there isn't any movement at the bargaining table. This means that there may not be school next week.

So, this is what the next couple of days looks like:

Thursday: Math Exam, French Test Prep., Joint P.E class with Div 1 and 2, Social Studies Presentations and Projects in the afternoon/ year end assembly prep.

Friday: Year-end assembly for grade 8s, BBQ (my husband will be volunteering and we are looking for other parents, sorry for the short notice, my husband was not too thrilled about that either) yearbook signing.

There may be classes next week, if the two parties make progress. We are scheduling year end activities as a "just in case" measure.

You are the best group of teens ever. Here is a bit of comic relief:

June 10th

Now you may think that this is a surprise, but the Math 8 exam has been on our agenda since September. The Math 8 Year-end Final will be this Thursday, June 12th. Use the course link and past tests to study. Questions or concerns?  Email me at: graniabridal@gmail.com or message me on this blog. My lines of communication are open to you! :-)

Tomorrow there is no school, but you should be studying Math and finishing your Social Studies projects/presentations. You will receive an I in Social Studies, if the project is not submitted on Thursday.

*For 3 tickets, comment on what you are doing tomorrow. This is a trick question because the answer is studying.

Strike information: we will know by 9:30 pm tonight whether or not the BCTF is escalating job action to stage 3, a full walk out, which would begin Monday next week. Stay tuned.

and now for some comic relief....

June 9th

Today we discussed our camping trip. The fact is that recent developments have meant that we have had to cancel the camping trip. I can speak on behalf of all the Grade 8 teachers to say that this has been an extremely tough circumstance, one completely out of our control.
While you guys were clearly disappointed, you have been so understanding, which just goes to show what a remarkable bunch you truly are.*If you have already placed a deposit, it will be returned home with you tomorrow afternoon*. Cash amounts will be returned as a cheque and will take a few days to process.

Remember my motto through this: we need to focus on what we have control of in life because we can work with that. We can have fun in spite of the storm that is around us.

But....first you have to study for your Math final and get your Social Studies' final projects done.Use the course links to review for Math and to guide you through your work in Social Studies.Today's word is: study.

I's - You were given a list of your outstanding work,.I will be sending emails to parents, if there is work still  outstanding by this Thursday.

Today's word is "dragon".

Remember that your "final" for Social Studies is your essay and presentation on a Renaissance figure. Some of you need to take a page out of this student's book; what a creative presentation on Joan of Arc.
